No Snow

There is no snow where I live. We have had 2 To 3 inches all over the South but not us. There Is talk of an impenetrable wall south of I 40 that is like a black hole for snow. None arrives.

In the meantime we see politicians blaming the weatherman, a viscous intruder attacking Jim Cantor, and even dogs sleeping on their backs to protest the snow. Several other headlines capture our attention:a cruise ship has 700 sick passengers, a man has been caught with hundreds of sleepy snakes hoarding his house, super bowl weather stirs up concern,, and I am sick with a head cold, sore throat, and coughing.

My birds are hungry and me to sick to walk out in 10 degree weather to feed them. When I am sick I don't read, don't drink enough juice, and feel miserable. I pass the time watching the science channel. Maybe a nap is appropriate. Where is Yogi Bear when I need him. My eyes hurt from typing this. I have read the paper. Oh wrll, just complaining!

R. A. Dickey

A retreat

Sometimes an unexpected person enters a life. They may be a teacher, a person to guide us, a word of comfort when our vision is distorted.

With it 18 degrees outside baseball. Is far away, but I am reading R.A.Dickey's autobiography. His confrontation with himself is inspiring. From a career as a minor leaguer he wins the Cy Young award as the best picture in the National League in 2012. The secret? A knuckle ball, tons of practice, and people who believed in him.

It is easy to forget those who touched our life and gave us confidence in ourselves.

Two questions. Who are people who changed our lives and the second question is "whose lives are we changing because we believe in them?" You think about that!

My new Thomas Merton site can be reached at: http://home.edge.net/~dphillip/Merton.html and my new REAL HOME SITE is http://home.edge.net/~dpphillip please try one or more of these sites to see ifthey work. The weather has been very cold here here . A total of only 1/4 inch of snowbut down to 2 degrees above. Really cold here. My email address is brodanphillips@gmail.com if you want to contact me. Our scripture reading/study tomorrow is Psalm 139, one of my favorites. When I moved to Nashville, I lived with Mrs. J.O. Williams for 3 months. This was her favorite Psalm and she had copies she gave to all she met. It was printed on her notecards. Recently saw Philomena and enjoyed it very much. We also saw Gravity and Saving Mr.Banks. I was disappointed that Emma Thompson did not get nominated for an academy award. She is my favorite actress. By the way my title for Psalm 139 in NOWHEre tO HIDE. What is your title for it?
