The profundity of this work is evident although I have only read 30 pages. I just recently graduated from college with a BA in Religion and Philosophy with a broad range of theological interests. I will be earning a Masters in theology this fall. However, in the haze of academic discourse, I think that I have lost some of my existential and spiritual foundation. Thus, I'm trying on Merton for a while. In addition, I have been thinking about taking a retreat somewhere (perhaps Gethsemani) and was going to ask about the procedure to schedule a retreat there and your experience. Its funny that you mention your Baptist background in finding Merton. I can relate because my Lutheran heritage does not exactly foster a monastic attitude. We all know that Luther's thoughts about the church, access to grace, and other redpemtive issues tend to conflict with the monastic tradition.

Anyway, if you have any thoughts please email me at TruthSeekerRM@yahoo.com. Time for praying, sleeping, eating, and drinking that good ol` monk coffee.

Breaking news from the Vatican:

Pope Benedict contracted the bird flu.
