Going to HELL

Just discovered by Pope Benedict XVI's latest edict that I am going to
hell because of not being a catholic. No one appreciates catholics as I
have through the years but this makes me angry. His apostolic succesion
argument is a joke. He has set himself up as God, the only worthy
dignity to worship. Sorry Popie you ain't God.

Ah, my dear brother. You're not quite reading the latest document right if that's what you heard it saying. It certainly says no such thing.

And officially, it's not from the Pope but from the office of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Anyway, the Catholic Church is not saying you or any other Christian is going to hell because you're not a Roman Catholic.

You may still not totally agree with it, but you might check this explanation out for some clarity. I'm sure there are others. It's stating nothing new at all really. Personally I'm not sure why it was necessary - likely it was intended to be more "internal business" but oh well, things get out and make the rounds.

Peace to you Dan.

I hope you have settled down some. It is amazing what is going on in the religious world. Maybe you will find a way to get some good monks on your side! Happy day...with no anger toward anyone or anything...Friday is coming...wayne

Hi Dan

I have to admit I'm a little saddened by it all.

The report I read stated: The Pope's old department, which issued the document, said its aim was to correct "erroneous or ambiguous" interpretations of the Second Vatican Council'. A misunderstanding? I think it has more to do with some not liking the current situation and so now they are trying to re-write history (reinterpret Vat2) to suit their own narrow religious views.

Yours, Brother Tadhg

LEt me say the document did not say that at all.

In fact it came no where close to saying that NON Catholics were not Christians.

As I posted on another blog, I hope more attention is given to the great work that the POntifical council that deals with relations with other Churches and communties will be followed with the same zeal as they continue their important work.

I can understand you initial frustration because I suspect you did not read the document. I ahve 9 times out of ten the initial media reports are always wrong as to religion.

ONe final note. As to the first poster this did have internal facets. We have Traditionalist we are trying to reconcille with also. Further people were diluting the Churhc teaching as to this subject as a spring board that basically there is no one "truth"
