Wisdom and the search for it.

Things learned are often suspect. They need to be lived first. The most disturbing news of this hour, day, year, is "where are the wise?" There are many who claim the role. Pundits. Speakers of all sorts, each with credentials, or maybe even lies, that appoint them as heirs of wisdom. 24 hours a day they fill our lives.

Where are the wise?

Even Solomon, counted by many as the wisest of men, had 700 wives and 300 concubines, alliances with nations surrounding him that were destructive, and his concluding statement is, "all is vanity." That from a man who had it all!

The wise? Live within your means. Don't follow the Jones anymore. Let me lead you to the promise land! That promise land is the echo of all who claim authority over us. And that, I admit, is what I am looking for, the promise land, where all our dreams come true.

But, I do not know where it is? Must we all wander in the wilderness for 40 years to find it? The land of milk and honey. The promised life we deserve! Probably! So, the person of wisdom, is probably hidden deep within. The past that haunts us, the mistakes made in the corners of our lives, the habits hidden, the  anger, the plotting, the disasters we helped to accomplish, only lead to one thing. That within us.

The place within? Is it really within us? How do we live with our failures and our past? Really, there is only one way, the place in our heart where we confront ourselves. And how? Maybe watching a sunset cover the sky with orange. Maybe turning the off button even on ourselves. Regrets are just memories of times we can't forget.

Some speak of a memory, of two roads, choices, and someone once said, "the one less travelled made all the difference."

No, I have not found the wise one yet, but I believe he is just around the corner.

Seems to me that in searching for wisdom we should all begin by OPENING OUR EYES !!!
