Saturday Morning

I sit outside for a few moments, read Psalms, and watch Cuddles and
Aidan play. A slight breeze passes periodically. In a few moments we
leave for Clinton, Tennessee, for the opening of the civil rights museum
-- a 50 year reminder of how some things have changed.

BENEDICTUS DOMINUS.....A favorite two word prayer of mine...."A blessing, Lord." Great to repeat on my AM walks. Great day in Clinton for you both.

SEVEN WORDS TO DESCRIBE PRAYER......Psalm 76:4 "I remembered God and I was delighted." Just to ponder...just to reflect...just to recall...just to be quiet in contemplation. Just to be still...just to be open...just to come in simplicity. Just to be grateful...just to let Him have His say...just to bring an open ear and open heart.

MORNING PAUSE........"Lord, just for today, I pray...that my heart may seek Thee...that my heart be humble and obedient...and a learning, seeking, striving, willing, forgiving heart...Give me a heart that finds joy in praise and thanks to Thee and a heart that cares deeply about people. I do not ask for tomorrow's needs...'one step enough for me.' "

A BRIDGE......StAlbert taught that "There is a bridge over which we travel to God and He travels to us. It is called 'charity.' " Where there is no love, there is no access to God. Since God is love, how shall we reach Him unless we love?

CLINTON TN.....A reminder of how change can be so good for mankind. May we continue to change so that the values (Declaration and the Constitution) that we hold in our hearts and cherish may become actions that can be seen and appreciated by all.

BLACK LIKE ME......Your vist to Clinton reminds me of the great book 'Black Like Me.' I was very moved by this story of a writer who posed as a black man and travelled through areas where blacks were not welcome..or just tolerated. His reflections on his feelings were truly moving.Your heart had to made of stone not to feel what was going on. He was greatly relieved when his work was completed. Years later, I was honored to train a black man for a job in our department...the truth being was that others did not want the assignment. We became great friends and shared lots of stories and jokes. God sent me an opportunity and a friend and and a very good man for the job.

SEEK...On the early morning prayer: Psalm 68:33 "Seek the Lord and your soul shall live...the poor man shall see and rejoice." As we reach for Him, we find that He already has hold of us to lift us up...we look for Him but He has already caught us in His net...loving Him we find that He has loved us first. He is always the FIRST to love.

GOODNESS OF GOD....."Teach us,O Lord, the varied ways of love...Thy goodness poured fully from above...Swept away by that flaming Heart...How blessed are we; how great Thou art! Teach us how to give...and,in charity,to live...Teach us all the kinder ways...and may love fill all our days." Amen.

A SLIGHT BREEZE......Remember that beautiful passage where the man of God was on the mountain and God was not in the fire, earthquake, howling winds BUT was in the slight gentle whisper of the breeze. You might miss it if you were not silent and reflective and receptive. Valuable time...quiet time with God!

THIRST..........Psalm 71:6 " Like the gentle rains, He shall come to water the earth..." To pause and to spend time reflecting on these
ancient and beautiful expressions of faith is so enriching...so good for the soul...so sustaining...so comforting...so challenging. As the earth needs the rain..so my heart needs the gain...Of Thy wisdom-blessings, gentle Lord...Come, Thy graces do not hoard...Pour upon me thy healing balm...What joy and feeding and quiet calm...Fill my heart this morning time...Help my soul to upward climb. How shall I find my way...If Thou hide Thyself this day?"
