Have you read this article, Dan?
Do you think Kelty's new precedent for monasticism - affirming the right of monks and others to declare their homosexual orientation - is a positive move for the future?
Doesn't that greatly contradict the teachings of the Bible and Saint Benedict??? Is that OK with you???

Reading Wm Paulsen's book 'Letters from a Hermit' about Fr Matthew Kelty.
Interesting that there is no discussion in the book about Fr Kelty's "struggle" with his gay identity.
To me, it is more interesting that the Church (Catholic) refuses to deal with sexual issues except when its hand is 'forced' (like the sex abuse of children in Catholic schools).
We do have to remember that Jesus spoke nowhere about establishing a church; and that it was the manipulation of his words and teachings by men who basically wanted to dominate a more natural or pagan world and its people that has brought us to where we are at present.
There is so much beauty in Jesus' words and teachings, manipulated as they are by all of us.
To love God with all our being, and our neighbor as ourselves. It is really as simple, and as complicated as that. And it really does not matter what one's sexual orientation is.
Thank you.
Joseph Costello
