Merton on Prayer

(Written while praying in the woods.)....."this sacramental moment of time when the shadows will get longer and longer, and one small bird sings quietly in the cedars, one car goes by in the remote distance, and the oak leaves move in the wind. High up in the late summer sky I watch the silent flight of a vulture, and the day goes by in prayer. Sept. 15. 1952 "

Where do you go to pray?

Strang as this may sound I go to my pool and do laps.
I take a copy of my Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers
newly translated Prayes from a small book we found in a forgotten
attic trunk. "Gebet Buchlein" from 1791 by F.A. Weihe. I place the prayers on a clip board and read one line for each lap. O what solice I have found in this way . If you would like to read some
goto my web site and read them there. Happy swimming! http://home.earthlink.net/~msweihe/id1.html

I have 5 children, so times of solitude are difficult to find.

My favorite place to go is to McD's.... yes, as in McDonalds!! I get up early and escape before any one wakes up... I like to do this on Saturdays! I take my Jonathon Hamby CD or a Hillsongs Instrumental CD and put on my headphones... Grab my Bible and off I go. I have had wonderful prayer there at my little corner table... drinking my coffee and reading the Word.
