The Wind

THE WIND

Cold, turning
Leaves moving
Mixing Sunshine and grass
Blah-humbug
Absence
Gone
Night !!

...wind in the pines overhead...murmur...whisper...sigh...they 'speak' of Him adored...
they sing their song...
but not all can hear...
only for those who hear with the heart...
...only those who are inwardly silent...
only those who care intently...
'fools' they say
but how much they miss who hurry on by...
who have no time for such stillness...

The winds of Pentecost...Recall that when they were gathered together in fear and in great wonderment, they heard a great wind and then saw the parted tongues of fire. Interesting that the wind came as the first 'attention getter' of the Spirit. May the winds of Pentecost still draw us and focus our attention on His Presence...His will...His plans for us...and for our servant roles.

Wind in the Trees
Lord, in the early morning light
I walked in silent prayer beneath the tall and stately pines. There, I heard a gentle whisper of a breeze in the branches overhead. Quickly, I gave the sound to Him as a morning prayer..and I know He heard. Wordless prayers to rise before His throne. The thoughts to become my own. I know He understood better than I.
I heard there a whisper of the softest breeze. In my heart, I took hold of it and gave it to God as Matins prayer. Wordless prayer falls happily upon His ears. It surely lifts my heart to Him as well...

...breeze that hurries to where?...never in foolish idleness... cannot pause nor delay...gentle wind that whispers in our trees...speaking what?...
sentiments hidden but sure to please...deep thoughts within the inmost soul...meaning quite beyond us here below...ever restless, cannot delay, busy and and on their way,...hinting of the endless day...be my wordless voice as I pray...simply, without words to my God everyday.

"Winds of God
restless...ever on the go...
like angels ever carying their messages in love...
like children too busy at their play...
like those too busy in their quest..to ever rest...like a faint voice calling out...
too meek to ever shout...like a prayer that never ends...
sent to God for me, dear winds of God...Go on your way...
Carry my heart to that holy place
where He dwells in endless grace."

...and wind comes and goes as it will..no one knows where it will go next...So with God's Spirit...We do not see Him but we SEE the effects of His Presence...kindness, prayerfulness, generosity, tolerance, a welcoming heart, etc. Dwell with us Good Spirit from on high...do not hurry on by.....

...the wind...Making a retreat in a Lutheran monastery one Ocober day...beautiful fall day...I stopped beneath some pines...I heard them 'whisper'...never before did I advert to this gentle sound...I asked God to let THAT be my voice as I continued in silent prayer...The saints were wise in that they used the things around them to 'sing' the praises of God...let the wind whisper words of love to Him...let the waters' splash sing a song to Him...let the birds songs be Matins and and Lauds...How much the things that surround us can be used as tools of prayer....Let us pray...
