Monday Morning Inspiration

I am taking a day off from work. (1) we need time off for the healing of
our souls. (2) to recharge our spiritual batteries. (3) we need to
realize there is a maintenance cost to the spiritual ife.

What are the little cries to God? A word, a verse, a mile, may bring us
back into God's arms.

"Cone Aside and Rest a While."....
"You are anxious and troubled over many things...needed is one thing only." We honor God in our resting as in our working...leave this acre unplanted so that it may rest and renew itself. Teach us, Lord, to rest with Thee...Thy blessings upon us be. We need a time apart, both body and soul and heart. Let us remember those words: "Come to Me..."

Paul Romans 16:32,33
"...that I may come to you in gladness...and enjoy some rest with you. May the peace of God be with you all. Amen.." So to rest in the Lord...so to restore our spiritual lives...so to be renewed in ministry.

Early October In High school,(Late 40's) early October was the time for a silent retreat for three days...always a time of rest and peaceful renewal. Retreat master was always very good and had lots of experience with retreat talks to young people. Just kids...we had a hard time keeping the silence and we were so glad when we could yak with all our pals. It always fell around the feast of St.Francis and that made the days very special indeed.

CONSIDER................Consider what we miss because we are too busy...too rushed...too preoccupied. Maybe the Lord will some day say to us: "So many times I tried to reach you but you were preoccupied." Good to reflect: We are called to 'be' not just to 'do.' To be in Him...with Him...for Him...near Him...

LITTLE BRIDGES...........The titles of the Psalms can be used as brief 'calling out to God'prayers. Like these favorites of mine: Domine, ad Te clamavi (Lord, I call out to You) Domine in Te speravi (Lord, in Thee I hope) Domine Miserere (Lord, have mercy) Jubilate Deo (Rejoice in God!) Deus, laudem meam (O God, my Praise) Domine Deus Salutis (Lord God of my salvation). Take a look at Psalm titles...I am certain that you will find your own special little bridge...a short way to cross over to God's arms.

Praise and Gratitude....George Herbert wrote: "Give me, O Lord 'such a heart, whose pulse may be Thy praise'...'Thou hast given so much to me...Give me one thing more - a grateful heart.' "

Giver of all good gifts, give me the grace to walk in awe before Thee...to seek Thee always... to find You where You wait for me...to look for the deeds that glorify You most...to sing a hymn of thanks each day...to humble myself in Thy Presence...to rejoice in Thy love...to walk in the light which You provide!

Lord, I rest in Thee...
In Thy peace to prayerful be...
Grant me Thy holy grace...
Thy goodly will to embrace.
In all cares and deeds...
To remember others' needs.

Not Home Yet......Psalm 136:4 "How shall we sing the Lord's song in a far away land?" To love God is to be longing to be with Him ...to dwell in His courts...to enjoy His Presence. We are not 'home' yet...and so the longing...the vague discontent...the patience needed.
