Clinton Tennessee Community Service

What a GREAT experience at First Baptist Church honoring the CLINTON 12
this morning. What a wonderful religious time together.

Just a passing thought that the moments that are most life changing are
not planned and are most likely events over which we have no control.

LIFE CHANGING EVENTS......He comes with His grace...To the unexpected place. He comes with His love...And goodness from above. Let us give thanks.

FOR THE LORD...A NEW SONG Psalm 149:1 "Let the saints rejoice and sing Him a new canticle...sing His glory and His praise." The song in the book is not your song and it is not new. Sing that song that resides in your own inmost self...that is the new song for Him.

A CERTAIN SPECIAL GRACE......Back in 1947, I knelt down in the darkened doorway of a locked church simply to honor the Presence of Christ within that sacred place. The torrent of grace that came when I stood up to leave was overwhelming and I never forgot that experience.

GRACE IN HEARING......When the speaker begins, I always say a prayer: "Lord, bless his words and bless our HEARING." They both need the help of God's Spirit.

GRACE AND WORDS......Your comments made me think: "Words are only words...They come and they go...But what a difference...When the Spirit makes them glow!"

DEEPLY TOUCHED BY GRACE.......At a prayer gathering a while back, a message was called out from the congregation: 'When I say 'Offer yourself to Me, do not say 'I am so unworthy, Lord. You are so precious to Me." A long pause. A lady, way in the back stood up. "I know that was for me. I have always felt so unworthy, so sinful, so far from God." She continued to give a most marvellous testimony. We heard God at work that night. He reached down to touch a particular very humble heart. Never to be forgotten by me nor the others there.

ANOTHER GRACE MOMENT.....A summer evening...the shores of a huge inland lake...a very beautiful sunset...a quiet time to walk and pray. Very clearly I was told to be quiet. I thought if prayer is good why this 'be quiet' message. "Be still...I am writing upon your heart." This was the word I next heard. So I spent the whole rest of my walk in complete stillness for it was clear that my wordiness was getting in God's way.
I thank Him for the unexpected moment of grace and the lesson I learned about prayer.

LESSONS UNEXPECTED.....A son taking his invalid father to the casino where the elderly man could enjoy pressing the buttons and watching the results. The son was completely wrapped up in his father's fun. God bless them both. So many times, the example of kindness can be such a 'sermon' on God's own goodness to us all. Much to learn. May we never miss a chance to learn the lesson that God is sending at a particular time and place. And He teaches where and how He will.

ODD ONE: STEALING A BIBLE....This actually happened. A person in a prayer group told the group that they had their Bible stolen from their car. They said: 'Odd thing but maybe God knows that is just what the thief needed in his/her life lives right now.' We are supposed to spread the Good News and this was an odd one.

TRUE STORY AGAIN....Two devout church going men were talking. One said 'I would never consent to receiving a heart transplant.' The other asked: 'Why not?' The reply: (hard to believe, I know) 'I would not want a stranger's heart...maybe it had lust in it or even a desire to murder. I would rather die without the implant." True stories are stranger than the fictional ones.

SMILE FOR YOU.....Sam was a very devout guy. He had a serious problem and did not know what to do. He decided to open the Bible at random and then do whatever it said. Surely God will tell him. He closed the Bible...opened it just anywhere and read: 'And taking a rope he went and hanged himself.' Sam was shocked. Surely that was not the answer. He decided to try once more and promised that he would do what he then would learn. Opening the Book again, he read: 'Go and do thou likewise.'.....Does God ever laugh???
