Beautiful Day-Saturday Morning Musing

What a beautiful day. Cuddles and I are outside enjoying a soft breeze. I just completed my task this morning of personally naming each of the 150 chapters of the Psalms. It only took about 3 years. The Psalms take on a different meaning when one has personally made them a part of your life.

PSALMS......So beautiful are these ancient prayers. My confirmation name is DAVID so maybe that is part of it. They are gems but you need to wipe away the dust that the translators have left behind....under that film, there is great inspiration. One of my favorites is from Ps 128, "The passersby have not called out to us in blessing. "We have blessed you in the name of the Lord. May God's blessings be upon you" It touches upon the love that all people of faith ought to express to one another. Peace and blessings to each of you.

HOMESICK............Psalm 136:4 "How shall we sing in a far off place? How shall we sing of the Lord, here so far away?" This beautiful prayer is a reminder that we are not yet 'home'...we are still on the journey to that place...we are a bit homesick.

LIKE INCENSE RISING.........Psalm 140:2 "As incense rising, let my prayer come to You..." As our thoughts go to God in reverent prayer, may they come to the Heavenly Throne and to the very heart of God.

PRAISE HIM............Psalm 150:2 "Let us praise Him according to the multitude of His greatness...praise Him in His mighty acts." Our homage, however great, will never match the splendor of our God.

YOUR OWN PSALM..........Once I attended a Scriture study on the Psalms. At the end of the sessions (four weeks) the students were asked to write a psalm of their own...their own hearts before God. Here is one of these 'homemade' psalms: "O my God, behold I come as one who seeks, calls, waits, hopes, looks, trusts for You are my All. So blessed am I in the finding of a Light...a Shepherd...a Way...a Strength. Now I hope for Thy peace at last in Thy holy dwelling place. I am alone yet not alone...as empty but yet filled...as hungry yet as fed...as little but as one strengthened... as poor but so enriched...as slate not yet written upon...as clay for the potter...as a scroll that is still blank. See me and come to my aid...assist me...for I am as an eaglet learning to fly...as desert needing rain...as night searching for the dawn...as a storm looking for the calm...as seed sprouting to new life...as a lamb needing a Shepherd. Hear me, O God of all goodness and full of mercy. Thou art my Rock and all my Hope. Amen."
