Words to Live By
Words To Live By:
1. Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
2. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
3. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
4. Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
5. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
6. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you don't have a leg
to stand on.
7. The early worm gets eaten by the bird, so sleep late.
8. When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
9. Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live.
10. Ever notice that the people who are late are often more jollier than the people who
have to wait for them.
11. If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy.
12. You may be only one person in the world but you may also be the world to one person.
13. We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull,
some have weird names, and all are different colors but they have all learned to
live in the same box.
14. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
15. Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open.

Did Merton have a sense of humor?
Thanks for this enlightening piece. It made me smile.
WRONG LANE......Thanks for the fun article. About'when everything is coming your way you are in the wrong lane. Really happened to me. Making a left turn in a far away city...very broad highway...making the turn got into the lane for oncoming traffic because I didn't go far enough over.. Thank God I lived to tell about it...but I usually don't tell too many people!
LATE ARRIVALS..........Ever notice that the late arrivals are jolier than the people waiting for them? Wonder why....
ENJOYING THE SCENERY.........Very good point...enjoying the scenery while on a detour...adjusting to the situation as it is not as we would have planned it. God's good grace is needed to live in peace and in changes that we did not anticipate. Thank you. 'Not as I will...'
ALL IN THE SAME BOX.......Great little saying. So true...if we don't live well in the same box, we will make each other miserable. Blessed are they who know that they have the same Father and so are brothers and sisters each to the other. 'Show us the way, Lord.'
SOMETIMES YOU ARE THE STATUE......On the days when all is going the wrong way and nothing seems right....maybe, just maybe, THAT is the day when we please Him most...making the best of it...smiling when we don't feel like it...patience and trust get a chance to become real in us. '...let him take up his cross and follow me...'
THE DOOR LEFT OPEN........Happiness sometimes comes because we left the door open. Good, pondering thought...Do I leave the door open...to my neighbor?...to my friends?...to members of my own family? Maybe we could profit a little by pondering this thought: openness as Christ would want us to be. Don't slam the door...may HE is coming up the path. 'Behold, I stand at the door...'
IGNORANCE IS BLISS.......Wondered why I am so darn happy!
IF UNKIND, BE AT LEAST VAGUE.......Lord, when I was unkind, I pray that I was non specific so my hearers could say "Well, I know that wasn't for me."
HUMBLE PIE......When you have to eat your words, let's hope they were not too bitter, unkind, distasteful, mean, hateful, spiteful.... Wow what awful taste!
I've enjoyed these Words To Live By, esp. #14. I've had to take many detours in my life, and I need to be reminded to enjoy them as I get rather impatient at times.
Reading your blog has helped me in my spiritual growth. I'm starting a blog of my own to process my journey, whether it be spiritual or otherwise. Stop by and visit me sometime. Guilelesspilgrim.
MORE WORDS TO LIVE BY.........A relative died a few years back. He was a terrific man...very good to all. He had a very succesful farm implement sales business. On his office wall there was a sign "It's not what you HAVE...it's who you are." He lived in this truth...you might have much in material things but the Lord is looking at WHO you are.
