Catching Up

I am trying to get use to new toshiba laptop computer. Not many updates lately. It has been a hot summer and I have not done well in the heat. Also feeling a little puny from time to time. I have been spending time reading the Dead Sea Scrolls. There was just something about being in Qumran where they were found that fascinates me. Also got my amateur radio antenna back up so maybe I can talk around the world again soon.

Greatest Advice I have had through the years

ADVICE THAT HAS BEEN MEANINGFUL TO ME.

DAN PHILLIPS, AUGUST, 2010

The things I thought were so important- because of the effort I put into them – have turned out to be of small value and the things I was never able to either to measure or to expect, were the things that mattered.   (Thomas Merton, Firewatch essay 1952)

Good news makes good horsemen. (This is regarding the news that Queen Elizabeth had died and James 1 of Scotland was to become king. There was a race to tell him first what had happened.)   Of course good news for some may not be good news for someone else.

The smallest person you talk with may be the biggest person you meet today. We need to listen. When someone says I'm OK, that means its time to listen, or to pray for them.

My favorite saying: "he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." (Jim Eliot, martyred missionary to Ecuador)

PROBABLY THE GREATEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN:

Lightening the Load

The first thing we have to do

Is to notice that we've loaded down the camel

With so much baggage

We'll never get through the desert alive.

Something has to go.

Then we can begin to dump

The thousand things

We've brought along

Until even the camel has to go

And we're walking barefoot

On the desert sand.

There's no telling of what will happen then.

But I've heard that someone,

Walking this way,

Has seen a burning bush.
